Monsignor Breslin Council 14995 Launches Vocational Essay Contest Council 14995 made a decision in June of 2010 to support a Vocational Essay contest in the St. Charles School. The scope of the project was enlarged to encompass five parishes in 2011, and the entire Dayton Deanery starting in 2013. The basic thought was that our youth today have little opportunity to think about a religious vocation as a career. The more we introduce to our youth the possibility of a religious vocation as a career, the better chance we have of increasing the number of religious vocations in the future. The contest is available to all students who attend the local Catholic schools from the fourth through the eighth grades. The final essays are due December 1st and are judged based on criteria given to the students in the essay guideline. The first, second, and third-place winners in each grade are given a certificate. The certificates are given out during Catholic Schools week in late January or early February. The topic for the 2021 essay contest :
The First Annual James Gehring Memorial Golf Tournament. The Knights of Columbus announces the first annual golf tournament in honor of James “Jim” Gehring to be held at Walnut Grove Country Club on Monday, May17. 2021. The tournament celebrates Jim’s life and his contributions to the Knights of Columbus. It also celebrates his fraternity with the St Charles Parish and the kindness he showed to all who had the distinct pleasure of knowing him. It was a joy to have him as a friend. We continue to ask for prayers for his family. The Tournament will start at 1:00 PM and is a best-ball scramble, tee off from your approved tee box, lowest score wins the grand prize. This will be an Open tournament; wives are encouraged to play. The K of C members will have priority, but Jim had many parish friends, and men and women are welcome to play, space permitting. There will be prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin and others (perhaps, the greatest number of lost balls when trying to hit it straight!?). The prize categories will be announced at the start. The cost will be $125.00 per person which covers the greens fees and a box lunch after the play is over (full bar service will be COD) and an amount for charity. The Knights of Columbus will use the donations to fund worthwhile charities, the amount and recipients will be published in the K of C Newsletter and in the SPUR. Registration forms are available from the St Charles Parish office or Gary Brinkman, email@example.com or John Griffin, firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks should be made payable to Knights of Columbus Council14995 and sent to Gary Brinkman, 656 Britton Ave, Dayton OH 45429. The registration form also has provisions for payment by credit card.
